Here’s the latest Ancient Ale coming from Dogfish Head called Birra Etrusca Bronze. This beer is co-brewed with Birreria Brother Brewers (Birra del Borgo & Baladin) as well as biomolecular archeologist Dr. Patrick McGovern. Research for this ancient ale was done in Etruscan warrior tombs along the coast of Tuscany and the 8th century B.C. recipe is based on “chemical and botanical evidence of tree resins, beeswax & honey, whole pomegranates, hazelnuts, grapes & apples inside ancient jars and drinking-bowls.” Birra Etrusca Bronze “represents the prehistoric mixed beverage of Italy before the arrival of wine” and this version is fermented with bronze. We brought you the news of this back in March (here too) as well as updates from Dogfish Head on the brewing vessel (here and here), so I’m excited to see the 750ml bottle label for this 8.5% ABV “new” Ancient Ale. Can’t wait to try this one!
