Guinness to Build New $195-Mil Brewery in Dublin

Guiness6

I have very fond memories of St James Gate Guinness Brewery in Dublin, so I’m cautiously excited to see Guinness parent company Diageo decide to spend over $195 million to build a new brewery in Dublin.  The good news is this new brewery will be on-line in 2013 and capable of producing 1.2 billion pints a year (up 40% from their current capacity).  The bad news is this will mean the official closing of the Dundalk, Kilkenny & St James Gate facilities and the move of brands like Harp and Smithwicks to the new Dublin brewery.  Even though the St James Gate brewery will close, this will NOT affect the Guinness Storehouse “brewery” tour and tourist facility.  Good news here since it’s not only a great place to visit, it’s also Ireland’s Number 1 visitor attraction with just over 1-million visitors a year.
