Today we’ll be sampling the new Firestone Walker Sunglider Golden Lager, and it you’re not familiar, this beer will be part of the Brewing For Tomorrow initiative just in time for Earth Day 2025. This Helles-style lager is brewed with locally-grown Atlas barley and according to Nick Firestone, “Brewing for Tomorrow is about being good stewards of our natural resources,” said CEO Nick Firestone. “It’s a mindset that drives every decision we make. From solar and water to carbon and now sourcing local grains, we’re committed to crafting beer with a lighter footprint and a deeper connection to our home.”
As part of its Brewing for Tomorrow platform, Firestone Walker continues to invest in practical, high-impact solutions that make brewing more sustainable. Recent upgrades include:
- CO₂ Recovery: A newly installed system offsets more than 4.4 million pounds of carbon emissions each year
- Solar Power: On-site solar now provides more than 60% of the brewery’s energy needs
- Water Reuse: A custom-built water reuse system recycles over 500,000 gallons of water annually
- Local Agriculture: More than 20 million pounds of spent grain are repurposed as feed for nearby cattle ranches
These improvements are part of a long-term effort to brew responsibly while staying true to the brewery’s local roots.
This limited edition golden lager furthers the theme of “locally grown and locally brewed” and of course I can’t wait to try it, so off we go…
