In July of 2010, the Friday BeerBuzz welcomed it’s first in-studio guest on the show…in Oct 2010 that same guest returned for the show that earned the Friday BeerBuzz the PA Association of Broadcasters award…so today I was excited to have him return again as our first 3rd-time guest! Mike Hiller from Bavarian Barbarian is always fun to have on the show, and today was even more exciting because of the special beer Mike brought up to sample.
Grumpy Pumpkin Imperial Porter is a new fall seasonal from Bavarian Barbarian Brewing, and quite a non-traditional one at that. We’ve sampled pumpkin-based beers before, but never a pumpkin porter. This brew had a great subtle pumpkin flavor laying on a perfect porter backbone and a big Imperial ABV & flavor. The spices and notes of vanilla are also subtle, but in balance with all of the other flavors. This is a very drinkable fall beer, but keep in mind the big 9% ABV may sneak up on you…but I guarantee it will make you far from Grumpy.
Check out Bavarian Barbarian Grumpy Pumpkin Imperial Porter for yourself before it’s gone.
Thanks
to Mike Hiller from Bavarian Barbarian, Nancy, John, Joe, and Bosco for yet another fun Friday.
The Friday BeerBuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.
As always you can check out the video on-line at the WILK Friday BeerBuzz page by clicking HERE.
Thanks Mike Hiller from Bavarian Barbarian, not only for making the trip up from Williamsport to join us in the studio this morning but for making an excellent pumpkin porter. A porter?!? Wow!
ReplyDeleteThanks too to Bil from MyBeerBuzz.com for another great show and to everyone who listens to the Friday BeerBuzz on WILK!
Best,
John

Great show. I love the Bavarian Barbarian beers and I wish we could get more in NEPA. Cheers Mike!

I love Mike's 2x4 and we do stop down every so often. Take a growler if you go because you'll want to take some home.
ReplyDeleteChris
I had some Grumpy Pumpkin last weekend. This is a great beer and I hope you brew more Mike.
ReplyDeleteRywn W
Nice show. Very funny too. I can't wait to try the Grumpy Pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteAmy
Thanks everyone, and thanks to Mike Hiller for not only joining us on the show, but for bringing up a really great beer. Mike tells me he's working very hard to keep up with demand, and he does recommend bringing your growlers for fills. The brewery is struggling to keep up with the demand for growlers so they've been running out recently. Mike's buying more but be sure to bring yours back for a refill!
ReplyDeleteLots of comments coming in. I will be away form the computer most of the day so don't be alarmed if your comment doesn't immediately appear....
Thanks everyone!
That was a good one. I replayed the previous Bavarian Barbarian shows and I think Mike is really good on the radio and obviously loves what he does. I'll have to come visit BB in Billtown soon.

I met Mike at one of the festivals and he's not only a great brewer but a really nice young man. Cheers to the Barbarians!

Your guests on the show really know their beer. Nice choices in beer too Bill. Thanks to WILK & Bavarian Barbarian. Now please add a request to Mike to brew a Chocolate Cherry Milk Stout.
ReplyDeleteMartin (Moosic)
Thanks everyone...and that sounds good Martin. I'll let Mike know about your beer-request.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Martin. That sounds good.
ReplyDeleteAJ
Great way to kick off Friday. Cheers buzzers!

I really like Pumpkin beers and this one sounded great. I definitely want to try some and I'll actually be in Philly, so I'll look it up. Thanks Mike.--Jerry
ReplyDeleteThanks WILK. I really love Friday mornings and I love that you guys have fun in the last part of the show. Bob
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bob. The Friday show on WILK is my favorite, especially with a weeekend beer to try.
ReplyDeleteGary J
I love Barbarian beers. Thankfully I live in Williamsport and I get to walk there. Thanks Mike! JJ
ReplyDeleteI love the video. You guys have too much fun. How can I come on the show and watch? Jeno
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeno...yes it is a lot of fun Friday mornings @ WILK. For now we haven't worke dout the details of a listener joining in the studio fun (darn lawyers)...but we haven't given up yet.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we sit quietly in the corner?
ReplyDeleteThat might help anon... ;)
ReplyDeleteIs Grumpy Pumpkin in bottles?
ReplyDeleteSam
Kegs only this year Sam but you never know. It's a great beer that I can see Mike bottling in the future.
ReplyDeleteWas Grumpy Pumpkin as delicious as it sounds?
ReplyDeleteBob
In a word Bob...YES. It was a really good beer...Nice traditional creamy porter, touch of cinnamon & pumpkin with a slightly vanilla backing and a great fall beer body. Try it if you can.
ReplyDeleteAnother commendable beer choice. I like what you're doing on the show and I think the fact that you have some great brewmasters from the east & west coasts coming on speaks well for WILK and the beer community locally. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThom
Thanks Thom...and a big thank you to the brewmasters on the east coast that get up early to drive in and the brewmasters on the west coast that wake up early to be on the phone with us. Who knew people love craft beer so much! ;)
ReplyDeleteI heard you had Mitch Steele on from Stone at 5:30 his time. Nice!
ReplyDeleteTrue Anon. Mitch Steele, head brewer @ Stone Brewery in Escondido CA has joined us twice on the phone to feature Stone beers....and yes it's 5:30AM his time!
ReplyDeleteI'm a regular listener and my husband always loves your featured beer. I'm not sure I can find today's beer, but I will try. He did LOVE your last three beers so you guys are dead on. Thanks for an easy Anniversary Gift for my hubby. Cheers Ana A
ReplyDeleteAlways happy to help Ana ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your show and it starts the weekend off on a happy note. Thanks WILK. Jeremy
