Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Deschutes Jubelale 2023 (Review)

I realize we just hit October, but I’m excited to get an opportunity to sample one of the returning classic holiday ales today (this will be the 36th release of this beer). Yes it’s early, but as a person not terribly fond of many fall beers, I welcome the seasonal jump. Now you may all not find today’s beer on your local shelves just yet, I think you’ll agree that it’s a welcome return as it arrives.

I’m talking about Deschutes Brewery in Bend, OR, and if that doesn’t narrow down the beer name, I’m not sure what will. The classic holiday ale (First brewed in 1988 and the first beer ever packaged by Deschutes) I’m referring to is Deschutes Jubelale and before we taste the beer, I should mention that the 2023 artwork looks great and it was drawn by former Deschutes Brewery employee Ben Woodcock. The bottle features a collage-style classic winter  mountain/river campfire design with the beer exploding like fireworks in the night sky.

The 2023 version of Jubelale will hit 6.7%-AbV (decidedly sessionable for a holiday ale) and surprisingly hoppy 65 IBU

Deschutes Jubelale 2023

Brewery Description:  Cozy up fireside with this festive winter ale full of spice notes and a robust malt character of toffee and dusted cocoa..

ABV:  6.7%
IBU:  65
Style: Winter Ale
Packaging:  12oz bottles
Appearance:  Deep Ruby
Aroma:  Biscuit, caramel & spice
Mouthfeel:   Medium
Taste:   Sweet toffee, caramel and winter spices
Overall: This is the 36th time I’ve tasted Jubelale and while the recipe never changes, my love of this beer never changes as well. The balance of warming spices and sweet malts makes for a really balanced and drinkable warmer. Overall I’d say the beer gets better and better as you sip and the complexity of flavors really shines as the beer warms up.

Be sure to get out there and try 2023 Deschutes Jubelale for yourself…and when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU thinkzzubreebym
