Leave it to Flying Dog Brewing in Frederick, MD to make yet another unique beer and a beer that also has a twist. I’ve been a big fan of Flying Dog for as long as I can remember, and while I always love the Great Ralph Steadman artwork, I really enjoy the creative beer names and of course the tasty beers themselves.
Today we’re twisting styles a bit with an IPA that is actually wearing a disguise. The beer is called Deep Fake and while it is a full-flavored IPA, it also happens to be a Non-Alcoholic beer. As Flying Dog says, the beer is a “Smooth Drinking Non-Alcoholic beer Disguised as Full Flavor IPA .”
The beer is brewed with Mosaic, Simcoe and Citra hops and Flying Dog actually “tweaked each and every part of the brewing process to ensure they were capturing the maximum flavor compounds every step of the way.” Of course it helps that the beer is wrapped in 12oz cans with some great artwork by Ralph Steadman, and the press kit even includes the fake nose/moustache/eyebrow glasses in the artwork.
You know I can’t resist a great IPA, so off we go…
Flying Dog Deep Fake IPA
ABV: <0.5%
Style: Non Alcoholic IPA
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Bright straw copper
Aroma: Citrus and tropical fruits
Mouthfeel: Medium
Taste: Citrus, tropical fruit, mango and grapefruit
Overall: Deep Fake will definitely fake you out. I have to admit that if I didn’t know it was a non-alcoholic beer, I would not have known based on the taste. The beer is loaded with some of my favorite IPA flavors like grapefruit and mango and the beer is infinitely drinkable and refreshing. Overall I’d consider Deep Fake to be a really good IPA that just happens to be NA as well.
Flying Dog Deep Fake was released on 2 July 2021 and it is available now (and year-round) in 12oz cans at the brewery and across Flying Dog’s distribution footprint so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
I’ve added in the updated 2022 12oz can (above).
