Back in the mid 1980’s, some of the first really good beers I encountered came from Pyramid Brewing and I’m excited to see that almost 40-years later, they are still brewing new and interesting beers. Of course I’m even more excited when a care package arrives at mybeerbuzz headquarters from Pyramid.
Today we’ll be checking out their new seasonal beer called Subliminal State. This beer started as an experimental draft-only beer brewed for Lazy Dog Restaurant locations and it will now become the spring seasonal release for Pyramid. The beer uses a 60% wheat malt in the grain bill as well as Amarillo, Citra and Denali hops. If that’s not enough fun, Pyramid also used Norweigian Kviek yeast to add a tropical boost to the beer. Naturally I’m curious to see how this combination plays out, so off we go…
Pyramid Subliminal State Hazy Pale Ale
ABV: 5.4%
Style: Hazy Pale Ale
Packaging: 12oz bottles
Appearance: Hazy orange golden color
Aroma: Grapefruit, tangerine and earthy
Mouthfeel: Medium soft and fluffy
Taste: A mix of ruby grapefruit, tangerine, passionfruit and a late slightly sticky and earthy pine.
Overall: Subliminal State is a really drinkable juice-forward hazy hop bomb with a really tasty mix of citrus flavors. The beer really has some pleasant grapefruit and tropical fruit flavors with a nice soft mouthfeel making for a really fun and sessionable drinking experience.
Pyramid Subliminal State is available now in 12oz bottles (6-packs & 12-packs) as well as 22oz bottles and draft throughout Pyramid Brewing’s distribution footprint so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
