From Space Time Mead & Cider Works:
Dunmore, Pa. – April 13, 2020
Space Time Mead & Cider Works is sponsoring its 2nd Annual Label Art Competition for its special 2020 wine. The name was inspired by the newly named Mars rover and the world’s collective response to COVID-19 pandemic, Perseverance. All proceeds from the contest will be given to Geisinger Health Foundation’s COVID-19 fund. Prizes will be given to the winner and runner up.
Space Time’s President, Dan Schreffler, said, “When I read the winning essay for the rover naming contest, it really summarized the character being exhibited now and will be needed to weather this pandemic, particularly those on the front line – our health care workers.” (Winning essay can be found at: https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/participate/name-the-rover/#Essay).
The 7th grade winner of the contest, Alex Mather, shared wisdom in his essay; “We, not as a nation, but as human will not give up. The human race will always persevere into the future.”
The Perseverance mead being created for the competition will be 20%+ alcohol by volume, which Schreffler says will be a bit of a challenge to make, “but we too shall persevere.” This small batch of wine was started on the day Lackawanna County went under “shelter in place” orders and likely take till end of the year to complete.
The competition will run over the next few months with label submission closing on May 31, 2020 at 11pm. The reviewing, judging, and selection of finalists will be complete by July 10, 2020, with additional release dates to come. All official competition rules, forms and dates can be found by visiting http://www.spacetimemeadworks.com/labelcompetition.html.
