Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Summit Brewing Mixed Pack IPA Edition (Review)

Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Summit Brewing Mixed Pack IPA Edition (Review)I’m pretty sure I’ve been with Summit Brewing since the very beginning…or at least the very beginning of when they came to PA.  I’m happy to say that I think I’ve tried most every one of their beers, but I’m even happier to say that today I’ll be sampling the few remaining beers that haven’t hit our market yet.

To kick off 2020, Summit Brewing added a new IPA followed closely by a new Mixed Variety Pack which includes yet another new IPA.  The first IPA is called Twenty-One IPA and it will be Summit’s new spring seasonal release.  The beer was a collaboration between Summit’s seven brewers; with each choosing one hop and one malt variety.  The resulting beer is Twenty-One IPA.

Summit Twenty-One IPA pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color with some really nice resinous and citrusy hop notes.  The beer uses Rahr Pale and Moravian 37 malts as well as Amarillo, Eukanot, Azacca, Simcoe, Calista, Columbus and Chinook hops for a really pleasant balance of orange and grapefruit hop flavors with some subtle biscuit and spicy malt flavors.  The beer has an effervescent mouthfeel making for a really drinkable combination.  Overall it reminds me of a blend of some of the old-school hop forward west-coast IPAs and a new-school slightly hazy IPA…and overall I really found it drinkable and enjoyable (7%-AbV, 70 IBU, 12oz cans).

Summit Twenty One is the showcase beer in the Mixed Pack IPA Edition, but I also wanted to highlight Summit Elderflower IPA.  This beer pours an enticing amber color with a really floral and herbal aroma set.  The flavors have a touch of citrus from the Raku & Bru-I hops, but the prominent flavor is very floral and herbal with just a bit of spice.  The finish is just on the bitter side of sweet with a balance that keeps the floral flavors up front.  Elderflower IPA is really drinkable with just enough citrus hops to keep everything in check. (6.2%-AbV, 41 IBU, 12oz cans).

If these two beers aren’t enough fun, add in to the mix some beers we’ve highlighted already like:

Summit Slugfest Juicy IPA
Appearance:  Bright amber orange
Aroma:  Tangerine, orange, citrus
Taste:  Citrus, orange, slightly sweet with more tangerine

and Summit Sága IPA
Appearance: Golden Amber
Aroma:  Citrus and resinous hops
Taste: More citrus, pine, apricot, grapefruit, grassy

and you’ve got the makings of an IPA party.

The Summit Mixed Pack IPA Edition is available now with Summit Twenty-One IPA, Summit Slugfest Juicy IPA, Summit Sága IPA and the new Summit Elderflower IPA so get out there and try it for yourself.  And when you do try these beers, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
