I started talking about a new beer trend in Fall 2019, and in 2020 I’ve taken it a step further. The trend I’m talking about is what I’m calling “healthy” beers and the “step further” is devoting two months of radio show coverage to these healthy beers.
I’ve been lucky enough to try more than a few, so I was really excited to get my hands on an amazing Lay Low gift package coming from Monday Night Brewing in Atlanta, GA.
The beer is called Lay Low and it just hit the market on Jan 27th. The beer will be a year-round release from Monday Night, and if you haven’t guessed based on the name (and my intro paragraph) it is both a low AbV and low calorie beer. Monday Night Brewing spent the better part of a year testing and perfecting this beer and the final recipe uses Idaho 7, Citra and Sultana hops. Of course I can’t wait to try it…so off we go.
Lay Low pours a bright amber color with citrus, citrus and more citrus in the aromas. I’d call the mouthfeel medium but really satisfying and after a few sips, I can suddenly understand the “Slay IPA All Day” mantra that Monday Night has attached to the beer. Lay Low looks and smells like an IPA and until you read the label, you’d never know that the beer only hits an incredibly sessionable 3.2%-AbV. I really liked the bounce of citrus in the initial flavors, and as a lover of all things Citra hops, the hop bill they used really works well for me. The overall balance of this beer is really well done, and the clean, bright and crisp finish makes for a really drinkable mix. At 3.2%-AbV and 90-calories per 12oz serving, Lay Low leaves a lot of room for enjoying more than one, and I think after you taste one, you’ll want to do just that.
Monday Night Brewing Lay Low IPA is available now and going year-round in 2020 in 12oz cans….which will be a really good thing when we all start shopping for the 2020 perfect beach beer. Get out there and try Lay Low for yourself, and when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
