I think I’ve managed to taste almost every release in the Humdinger Collection from Magic Hat, and as you’ll see below, my streak continues. These bold limited-edition beers are always unique, and with the recent MH push toward Belgian-style beers, I was excited to see what was next.
Today we’re sampling Local Rocker and it is a farmhouse saison with a “hometown collaboration.” This beer pays tribute to Vermont “local rockers” and it was designed with Vermont musician and cartoonist James Kochalka (the creator of American Elf).
Of course I couldn’t resist rocking this one out, so off we go. Local Rocker pours a bright golden/orange color with loads of pleasant Belgian yeast and estery fruit aromas. The flavors have a mild sweetness followed by lemony citrus and herbal notes. As the beer warmed, the floral presence amps up a bit with just a touch of classic peppery spice toward the end. Local Rocker finishes dry and clean and the soft mouthfeel makes it really appealing.
Overall we really liked Magic Hat Local Rocker. At 5.7%-AbV it’s really drinkable, and I really liked the choice of 16oz cans for this beer. The beer has a nice balance and a combination of flavors I really had fun with.
Be sure to try Magic Hat Humdinger Series Local Rocker Farmhouse Saison for yourself, and when you do, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
