From Magic Hat:
South Burlington, VT – Magic Hat has announced a new addition to their Humdinger
Collection of bold, limited-edition beers: a Farmhouse Saison with a hometown collaboration
dubbed Local Rocker.
This classically Belgian-style beer is floral and peppery with light citrus notes and a dry finish.
Much like a true rocker, this beer is known for its expressive and forward character. Local
Rocker is an ode to the local rock stars of the world, those who bare their souls on stage night
after night. They don’t burn out or fade away. They rock on.
The new release will be available for a limited time from July through September in 4-packs of
16oz cans and on draught at select bars.
Recent Success for Belgian-Style Beers
The Vermont brewery has recently enjoyed a newfound success in the arena of Belgian beers; fresh off wins for Belgian Brewery of the Year at the New York International Beer Competition and Best Belgian Beer (for fellow Humdinger, Belgo Sutra) at the Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival.
True Local Rocker, Cartoon Laureate Enlisted
For the design of the Local Rocker can, Magic Hat enlisted the extraordinary cartoon capabilities
of Burlington’s own local rocker, James Kochalka. Kochalka is an award-winning graphic
novelist and the creator of American Elf and Sketchbook Diaries. In 2011, he was named the first
Cartoonist Laureate of Vermont. He also performs in a rock band in many of the same
Burlington bars that Magic Hat has performed in for decades.
“When we decided to look for our next artist collaborator we looked right in our backyard at
James Kochalka,” says Magic Hat Creative Director Ryan Ober. “James is an accomplished
comic artist, author, singer and general creative man-about-town in Burlington, Vermont. We
liked the idea of James being our Local Rocker, as he embodies the creative and free spirit that
we do at Magic Hat. His on-stage theatrics and full rock ‘n’ roll power are a sight to behold, and
he is now immortalized on aluminum as ambassador of good taste in beer.”
On July 27, The Local Rocker, himself will appear at Magic Hat’s Artifactory in South
Burlington, Vermont, where the first flights of this new beer can be savored and sipped on, while
enjoying the bittersweet late-night sound of the indie rock band, The Giant Peach. Kochalka will
meet and greet with fans from 5 – 7 p.m. while debuting his own rockin’ artwork.
