From Marin Brewing:
It was inevitable, a beer taking its name in the form of a hashtag, but #nofilterbananasplitbock, aka, Hashtag No Filter Banana Split Bock comes with a brilliant backstory.
Brewed at Marin Brewing Company in collaboration with Shane Aldrich of Oakland United Brewing Company, a former Marin brewer, #nofilterbananasplitbock is the result of what happens when a couple of old school brewers get together over beers at the Great American Beer Festival and plan a collaboration.
After what both brewers described as a tasting of a few dozen beers in Denver, what started out being a classic German Weizenbock became a Banana Split inspired brew.
Johnson and Aldrich both agreed that beer is their favorite dessert, and neither of them like sweet beer much.
“So it ain’t sweet, it tastes like beer, and the flavor additions are subtle!” said Johnson. “German Weizen Yeast gives us banana esters. Chocolate wheat malt and TCHO cacao nibs give us chocolate flavors. Add a little caramel malt, vanilla extract and cherry juice and whaddya got? #nofilterbananasplitbock of course!”
