We brought you an early peek at this beer, and now the full details from Fort Collins:
Fort Collins, CO – On April 14th, Fort Collins Brewery (FCB) will be releasing Scarlett on Brett, a wild ale that is 8% ABV. The product launch will include a social takeover featuring the mysterious Scarlett vixen, as well as a photo sharing contest for fans of adventurous beer.
Utilizing Brettanomyces, a wild yeast strain, during the fermentation process can be an adventure in itself. Scarlett on Brett is derived from a primary fermentation, meaning Brett was pitched into wort that has not yet been fermented. “People often associate Brett with funky, horsey, barnyard like flavors,” said FCB Brewer Shaun Salyards. “As a primary fermentation strain, brett will create tropical flavors. While we wanted to showcase the brettanomyces, we also wanted to make the beer drinkable and that’s what I love about it. It remains approachable but hopefully educational for folks who haven’t tasted a primary fermented brett beer.”
The wild ale will have a complex malt profile that produces a juicy mouthfeel. Daring tastebuds may notice a slight earthiness to the brew, followed by delicious aromas of pineapple and stone fruit. Finally, a subtle tartness will tickle the tongue.
As FCB launches this adventurous brew, the brewery will be encouraging craft beer lovers to post their most adventurous photos on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #ScarlettTakeover. “We’re paying homage to Scarlett on Brett by asking people to be bold and share their adventurous experiences with us. Just like brett fermentations, many of life’s adventures can have unbelievable outcomes and we want to share those stories,” said Chea Franz, Marketing, PR & Brand Manager at FCB. The most adventurous photos will receive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes from Jax Mercantile Company, an outdoor gear shop with locations throughout northern Colorado (out-of-state enthusiasts need not worry, Jax has an online shop). Winners will be selected on May 27th.
Scarlett on Brett will be available on draft and in 6-packs in Colorado as well as at participating liquor stores nationwide. For more information about FCB’s Scarlett on Brett, go to www.FortCollinsBrewery.com.
