Pelican Brewing Company officially broke ground on a new Cannon Beach Brewpub location on Tuesday, September 28th. The groundbreaking was attended by just over 120 city officials, local business people, citizens, Pelican fans, & Pelican staff who enjoyed beer sampling and appetizers catered by John Newman and the team from Newman's at 988. The festivities included a ceremonial "golden shovel" ground breaking and speeches from the Mayor, President of the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, and Pelican owners and senior leadership.
The exterior of the brewpub will resemble a coastal cannery/ warehouse finished in natural cedar shake and board and batten siding. The exterior will feature a 40 seat patio, exterior waiting area, and two fire pits along with heaters to keep outside diners warm and toasty on cooler days. The exterior also boasts four rollup garage-style doors on the south side of the building that will open up to the patio and "bring the outside in" on warm sunny days.
The interior experience starts with a lobby that can be entered through a set of French doors or through another rollup garage door on warm days. The lobby includes a host stand with a growler fill station and a separate retail area that will feature Pelican swag. As guests walk into the dining room they will be greeted with high ceilings and open beam construction reminiscent the coastal cannery feeling, but the finish of the tables, chairs, and interior walls and design touches will be more refined, as if an old building has been repurposed into a new use.
The dining room and bar will accommodate approximately 160 guests inside. Dining room seating will be a mix of banquettes and freestanding tables and chairs arranged into comfortable dining spaces. The bar will have high-top tables and a U-shaped bar.
As guests enter the bar area they will also see a ten barrel brewery in the Northwest corner of the building. The brewpub is scheduled to open in Spring of 2016 & Pelican would like to thank Tolvana Architects, O'Brien + Company Construction, Cannon Beach Landsape, the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, the City of Cannon Beach, and Fibre Federal Credit Union for their support on the project.
