Portland ZigZag River Lager - A First Tasting

image
It’s always fun to sit down on a Saturday afternoon and sample some beer…and it’s especially fun when the beer comes from the great northwest and Portland Brewing.  I brought you news of this beer, so I was excited to find it waiting for me when I returned from my Easter travels.

Portland Brewing ZigZag River Lager is a new addition to Portland Brewing’s Year-round line up, and I’m happy to say it’ a really good beer.  ZigZag uses Munich & 2-row malt and the addition of wheat malts adds in a subtle creaminess that I really liked.  As if that’s not good enough, ZigZag River Lager uses Tettnang and Nugget hops to balance out the satisfying bready malty backbone.  This lager is really refreshing and very easy drinking and each sip actually makes you wanting more.  The beer is really well balanced and at 5.1% ABV and 25 IBU it’s a perfect beer for the craft beer lover as well as the craft beer newbie.  The body is lighter than I was expecting, but that only contributed to the drinkability I really enjoyed in this beer.

ZigZag River Lager will be available year-round in 22oz and 12oz bottles as well as draft, so be sure to try this one for yourself and let me know what you think.  Cheers to everyone at Portland Brewing….I think you have a winner here.
