I’m still gathering details, but there is a fire in progress at the Minhas Brewery. The fire is on the upper floors and was apparently started by foam insulation equipment in use by contractors. At the current time the fire is listed as Under Control but not out with substantial damage. No injuries have been reported.
22 Nov 2013 Update from the WI State Journal:
Damage from a fire Thursday at Minhas Craft Brewery is estimated at $500,000 but the brewery’s production schedule will only be slightly affected.
Gary Olson, president of the brewery, said that the brewery does not brew on Fridays and next week was a light week with little production scheduled. Production should resume after the Thanksgiving holiday, he said.
The fire was contained primarily to a stairwell and is believed to have started from a malfunctioning machine that was being used to spray foam coating on the walls of the stairwell, which is adjacent to the rooms that hold the brewery’s fermentation tanks. Olson said it’s unlikely the smoke damaged beer in the sealed tanks but said heat may have damaged beer that was being stored in six, 600 barrel tanks near where the fire started.
