Ipswich Ale Adopts a Gluten Free Beer From The Alchemist - Celia Saison

imageFrom Ipswich:

When the Alchemist’s John Kimmich learned that his wife and brewing partner, Jen had been diagnose with celiac disease, the Vermont brewers knew that they had to create a gluten free offering that was tasty and could be enjoyed by the masses. John, the creator of the famed Alchemist Heady Topper, is no stranger to formulating top notch recipes, so a little experimenting and many test batches later Celia Saison was born.

“John really likes the Celia Saison because the spiciness from the Belgian yeast strain complements the sorghum,” Kimmich said. “Instead of trying to mask the sorghum, they really work well together.” The judges of the World Beer Cup couldn’t have agreed more because in 2010 the cleverly named Saison took the Gold Medal Award for the best Gluten Free Beer in the world.

We were humbled and excited when John approached us at the Ipswich Ale Brewery to brew a commercial batch of the Celia Saison and even more humbled when he eventually offered to let us adopt and sell it as an Ipswich Ale Brewery product. We’re proud to be able to continue to brew this recipe for those with celiac disease and distribute it to fans of Ipswich Ale and the Alchemist alike.

As always, the beer will be available in 4 packs. Packaging for the beer will maintain the same artwork, but will now don an Ipswich Ale logo. We bottled the first run of the saison this morning and expect it to start making its way to shelves in the next couple weeks!

Cheers to all!
