From Port City Brewing:

(Washington, DC) – Today, Port City Brewing Company and DC fuzz rockers Borracho announce they have teamed up to create a limited edition beer—Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale—to be released on May 18, 2013 at The Pinch in Columbia Heights, Washington, DC. The beer will only be available at the 18th of May show.

Port City Brewing has been working closely with the band to custom design Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale to their specifications. Starting with Borracho’s favorite beer style, brown ale, the recipe was developed to also match the band’s smoldering, dark and heavy sound. Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale has smoky undertones derived from adding locally-grown and smoked barley malt to the mash. The smokiness is complemented with complex earthy and subtle roast flavors by including caramel and chocolate malt, and a touch of roasted barley. This brew is moderately hopped with Magnum and Fuggle hops to provide the right balance to make it easy drinking. Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale pours a dark brown color and is devilishly delivered at 6.66% alcohol by volume.

“Creating this beer has been a lot of fun,” commented guitarist/vocalist Steve Fisher. “Working with Will Cook to identify the characteristics we wanted in the beer, and being involved in tasting and commenting on the pilot batches was super cool… and delicious.”

Bassist Tim Martin adds, “We set out to brew a beer that could be the taste equivalent of our music—and the final batch is a success which is amazing. We’re excited to release it for the local audience.”

Brewer Will Cook of Port City Brewing Company states, “This is why I love my job. I get to combine two of my passions—beer and heavy metal. I’m honored to have been given this opportunity to craft a brew for Borracho. The whole process has been a blast!”

To mark the beer’s release, Borracho and Port City along with DCHeavyMetal.com and The Pinch will present a free night of riff-heavy live music. The May 18 show will kick off at 8:00 PM with Delaware’s Wasted Theory. The smoke will thicken for Maryland doomers WeedIsWeed, and Boston’s lethal Cortez will kill the stage before a steamy headlining set by Borracho.
