We brought you news that Grey Sail Brewing was suing Full Sail Brewing over a naming conflict.  Now comes word that Grey Sail brewing has decided to change their name to Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island to avoid naming conflicts and legal issues.  Details from The Westerly Sun:

They started out as Grey Sail Brewing but changed the name to settle a trademark dispute with the owners of Full Sail Brewing Co. of Hood River, Ore. Grey Sail also agreed to change how it displays its name on some of its packaging, Brinton said.

Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island, which opened in November 2011, initiated legal action against Full Sail Brewing Co. in May, after Grey Sail received a phone call from Full Sail claiming trademark infringement. Grey Sail initially sought a court ruling declaring it had not infringed on Full Sail’s legal rights.

By adding Rhode Island to the name, Brinton said the company was emphasizing a key part of its business and marketing strategy — to closely identify with its home state.
