We sample wonderful beers on the Friday BeerBuzz every week, but It’s not often that we get a chance to share that sampling with all of you! This week we invited Brian Whetstone from Victory Brewing (Downingtown, PA) into the studio to help us launch the NEPA premier of Victory’s new, Headwaters Pale Ale.
It’s not only exciting to get the very first sample of a new beer hitting out area, but as I said before, it’s incredibly exciting to get to share it with all of our listeners. That’s right…YOU get to sample it too! Join us tonight from 5-7PM at Krugel’s Georgetown Deli & Beer as Brian and I will be handing out the very first samples of Victory Headwaters Pale Ale in NEPA.
I’ll admit I have a very soft spot for hoppy, easy-drinking Pale Ales, and Headwaters is right up that alley. This is a beer that has a wonderfully drinkable flavor and body, and a very sessionable 5.1% ABV. I think this is a great addition to the Victory Brewing line-up and one I look forward to enjoying again and again.
It was fun talking beer with Brian and hearing about 15th Anniversary of Victory Brewing, the green initiatives that Victory Brewing has in place and how Headwaters Pale Ale, as it’s name would suggest, is a beer brewed to celebrate the water that is used to brew it. Headwaters is a beer with a conscience as Bill Covaleski, co-founder of Victory Brewing recently put it, and a beer that I think has a promising future.
Thanks
to Brian (and everyone @ Victory Brewing), John, Nancy, Joe & Bosco for yet another fun Friday.
The Friday BeerBuzz…bringing good beers and good people together.

I'd love to see you do more of these types of shows, where we get to sample the beer too. I think this is a great idea and a great excuse to have a beer with all of you.
ReplyDeleteAJ
Thanks AJ. We'll certainly try to do more. It's not always possible, but we love coming out to share a beer with all of you as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm a long time Victory beer fan and I love Pale Ales so I can't wait to try this. See you @ Georgetown.
ReplyDeleteWhen the warm weather is on us you'll sometimes hear a beer referred to as a "lawnmower beer". A beer that hits the spot on a hot, humid day. Something you can pour into your face like dumping a bucket of water on a campfire. It gets the job done. Puts out the fire.
ReplyDeleteA beer like that is fine but it's not rocket science.
Victory Brewing's Headwaters Pale Ale is where the rocket science comes in. In Headwaters Pale Ale Victory has a 5.1%ABV session beer THAT TASTES LIKE SOMETHING!
It's hoppy but not HOPPY. It has a tang of citrus and something other "lawnmower beers" don't have, substance! Body!
It'd be fine all year round but it's perfect for the warm weather ahead. Get some, get some, get some!
Thanks as always to Bill from MyBeerBuzz.com and thanks as well to Brian Whetstone of Victory for being on the show and introducing us and NEPA to Headwaters Pale Ale!

great show guys. This is a beer I'm really curious to try.
ReplyDeleteMartin
I think the market for session beers is growing rapidly. This is agreat economic move for Victory.
ReplyDeleteJason (Dallas, PA)
LA Tarone on the beerbuzz next week?!
ReplyDeleteI'm a regular listener and not a beer lover so far. I did try Three Philosophers and liked that one, but I haven't tried one after that. I do want to try todays Headwater beer. It just sounded so good.
ReplyDeleteRob
I love the music you do with each beer. I'll have to call in some suggestions if you can tell me the beer.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. We enjoy choosing the music and we're always open to suggestions. Maybe you can suggest a beer AND a song. Victory Headwaters Pale Ale is a great beer and definitely one you should come out tonight and try....remember 5-7PM @ Krugel's Georgetown Deli tonight!
ReplyDeleteAlways fun. When can we see the HD video?
ReplyDeleteThank you...in HD format, our video takes an hour or so to convert and more time to edit....stay tuned it is wirth the wait!
ReplyDeleteThis is refreshing to see a brewery working on a great drinkable beer and not a crazy high ABV hop-bomb. Rock on Victory and thanks to WILK for bringing it to us.
ReplyDeleteChris
See you at Georgetown!
ReplyDeleteJT
A+ buzzers!
ReplyDeleteHop devil is great and I think Storm Kings is one of my favorites. I have to try Headwaters. I think the big cow is calling my name tonight ;)
ReplyDeleteBeer in HD video!
ReplyDeleteI love to see the great local breweries paying attention to Northeastern PA. Thank you for getting Brian from Victory on the show. I plan to come out and sample some headwaters so I'll be sure to thank you both in person.
ReplyDeleteKurt (Pittston)
Thanks Kurt. We agree. It's time NEPA is reconized for the craft-beer lovers hotbed that it is. Do say hi tonight.
ReplyDeleteI drove to Philadelphia last weekend to sample this beer and it was well worth the ride. I'm excited that I can now buy it closer to home. Keep up the good work Victory & WILK.
ReplyDeleteRyan W
Thank you to Victory and Brian for bringing this beer to NEPA.
ReplyDeleteAmy
I love Victory and I can't believe we have a new beer. I'll be at Krugel's to try it. I'll be the guy that's first in line!
ReplyDeleteTom
How hopyy is this beer?
ReplyDeleteAnon...it is less hoppy than an IPA but it does have a great citrusy-hoppy flavor. North of a Pale Ale and south of an IPA.
ReplyDeleteI ccannot wait to try this beer. Thanks to Brian.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see another dark beer while the weather is still cool.
ReplyDeleteMark Mmmm
You'll see pleanty more stouts Mark. We're hitting the seasonal hoppy and session ales, but I haven't forgotten stouts or any other style for that matter. Stay tuned!
ReplyDeleteSee you for the sampling buzzers.
ReplyDeleteChris K
I'm continually amazed at how much you guys know about beer. Here I thought a beer was just a beer, but now I'm interested. I've only caught thre or four shows, but I do plan to check out this Victory Headwater and see for myself. Good info!
ReplyDeleteJJ
Thank you. It's true that not all beers are created equally. You should devote yourself to trying them all to confirm that yourself (purely for scientific purposes) ;)Thanks for tuning in!
ReplyDeleteCan I be a guest on the cruise ship show?
ReplyDeleteYou never know anon ;)
ReplyDeleteThe video is great. Now in HD. It even sounds better. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Thank you to WILK fro not only buying us a new HD camera for the show, but also wiring it into the direct audio feed. Thank you WILK!
ReplyDeleteLove this beer!
ReplyDeleteI love Golden Monkey and you didn't mention Dark Intrigue.
ReplyDeleteAmy
I do like the HD video camera. Much better!
ReplyDeleteI'll be out tonight to sample. We love Krugel's.
ReplyDeleteWill we be able to buy Headwater tonight too?
ReplyDeleteYes. it's my understanding Krugel's has Headwaters in bottle for sale tonight so sample it for yourself and be sure to buy some to take home.
ReplyDeleteSorry Amy...Dark Intrigue is a little harder to get so perhaps when it is more widely available we'll invite Brian back up and sample it. Thanks fo rthe suggestion.
ReplyDeleteI used to live outside Philadelphia and one of the things I miss the most was Victory's brewpub. It's a great destination for anyone traveling down toward Philly.
ReplyDeleteKevin
See you at the big cow.
ReplyDeleteJames
I really love Hop Devil but I had no idea Victory was doing this beer. Thanks to Brian and the Friday beer buzz show for clueing me in. Now if I can just get up to Krugel's before the tasting ends I'll be a happy man.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Kugel's beer so much more expensive than other places?
ReplyDeleteI shop lots of places for bottles Anon and I don't agree. What do you find more expensive and where else can you find this selection for the price?
ReplyDeleteBig selection, yes. But a lot of their beers are way higher in price than other places in the area, I'm just sayin. This past year bombers of Pumking were over $10 if I recall correctly. At Wegmans just up the road it was what, $7? Last year they were selling Hopslam bottles singles for $5, when you could get sixers at Sabatini's for $20. Their belgian beers, like four packs of Chimay are WAY more expensive than Wegmans. Beer Stop in Hazleton should get some love too. They had Headwaters there LAST week.
ReplyDeleteDid you happen to get a list of recent arrivals at Krugel's while you were there? It's nice seeing what is in stock before those of us who live further away make the trip.
ReplyDeleteI did see lots of new stuff and I am expecting an update. If there's something specific you;re looking for I may be able to tell you if I saw it or not...otherwise stay tuned for an update.
ReplyDeleteNothing specific, but most interested in Lost Abbey, Port, Alesmith, Dark Horse, Hoppin Frog, etc... Things that are impossible or very limited in the Binghamton/Ithaca/upstate NY area. I will look forward to the update.
