Former Olympia Brewery Well To Be Converted to Residential Use

imageOlympia Brewery carried the slogan “It’s The Water” right up until they stopped using their well in Olympia WA in 2003.  Now comes word that three Olympia-area cities are testing the water for residential use.  This from the NewsTribune:

TUMWATER — The wells and aquifer that supplied water for the Olympia Brewery are undergoing tests this month to map out a plan for the cities of Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey to put the water to use.

The three cities purchased the water rights for 28 wells and 18 acres of property for $5.3 million in 2008, then received state Department of Ecology approval to transfer the water rights to municipal use in 2009.

Under the agreement with Ecology, the cities have until 2026 to start using water from some or all of the wells.

The cities have hired RH2, a Bothell-based engineering firm, to conduct a variety of tests at the well field and come up with a preliminary engineering plan for developing the site. The field work for the $300,000 project wraps up Sept. 26.

The wells have been out of commission since the brewery ceased making beer in June 2003.
