Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Vol 11 (Review)

If you’ve been following along with some of my more recent reviews on mybeerbuzz, you’ll note that I’ve really been enjoying some double IPA’s from a brewery that is still relatively new to me.  The brewed is called Wild Leap Brewing and they come to us from LaGrange, GA.  You can check out my review of their Truck Chaser Creamsicle here and their Three Harvest hydroponic-hopped DIPA is here….and fasten your seatbelts as I take on another Double IPA.

Today I was fortunate enough to get to sample a third Wild Leap DIPA and that beer is called Alpha Abstraction Vol. 11.  If you’re not familiar, this is the eleventh release in the series and the series itself was created to “explore” hop varieties.  Volume 11 uses HBC 472 and the beer is a double dry-hopped double IPA that rolls in at 8%-AbV & 46 IBU.
Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Vol 11
Alpha Abstraction Vol. 11 pours a bright golden color with a hazy appearance and inviting aroma.  The nose has a really pleasant citrus and fresh berry presence with lots of complexity and earthy notes.  The flavors are definitely fruit-forward with oranges, grapefruit, tropical fruit and berries and there’s an interesting and complex mix in the late and warming flavors.  I found a vinous character in the beer and a boozy earthy flavor that I liked but couldn’t describe.  Wild Leap calls it a “Bourbon oak” aroma and I’d agree that’s a pretty good descriptor.  As you would expect in a DIPA, the beer is boozy, but the flavors and complexity serve to hide that boozy flavor quite a bit making this a drinkable and sneaky beer.  Overall I found Alpha Abstraction Vol. 11 to be a really juicy DIPA with a strong but balanced hop character and a really drinkable mix of flavors.

Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Vol. 11 is available now so get out there and try it for yourself.  And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
