Today I have a new benefit beer coming from Oskar Blues in Longmont, CO and Brevard, NC. This is River Rhine Beach Party and it will be a German-style Kolsch-style ale brewed to benefit Stache Strong. The beer will hit 5.2%-AbV and it will be packaged in 16oz cans. In 1997 Oskar Blues opened its doors at 303 Main Street in Lyons Colorado. The mission wasn’t brewing beer, but imparting a slice of southern hospitality into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Offering homemade cajun style cooking and a relentless line-up of world class blues musicians that would keep the parties going into the early hours. The bar had a unique style that drew people in from all around. With a background in homebrewing, Dale figured this special place deserved its its own signature drink, something as bold and captivating as the music and food that everyone loved.
In 2002 a spam fax printed out in the Oskar Blues office selling beverage equipment, including a hand can seamer. What easily could have been crumpled up and tossed in the bin, sparked an idea that would revolutionize the craft beer industry. Supporting the avid outdoors-people of Colorado meant the frustrating reality of glass bottles in the outdoors. A dangerous proposition that in many places isn’t even legal. But maybe the can wasn’t getting the credit it deserved. So, the hand-seemer was purchased, cans were printed and the rest is history.
Today, Oskar Blues has production facilities in Longmont, Colorado and Brevard, North Carolina that deliver the freshest craft beer across the country and create a wide variety of amazing small batch beers only found at our taprooms. We’ve tapped and canned thousands of different beers over the course of the last 20+ years, but one things remains true; Oskar Blues will never stop celebrating the undiscovered shapers and makers, the friends and folks that remind you where you stand, smack dab in the middle of really good time, drinking a really good beer.
