From Lakefront:
Our Ripple Effect Donation Program continues to search for ways to better our community and the lives of the people who reside in it. Starting August 13th, we will begin our initiative to help raise funds to redevelop a greener, healthier, and safer schoolyard for the students of Riverwest Elementary. We want to help the youth in our community feel valued and worthy of a proper place outside of their school to partake in activities that nurture their full potential.
Riverwest Elementary has partnered with Reflo, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to catalyze sustainable water use, green infrastructure, and equitable water resource management to support objectives that are valuable for local communities. The conceptual plan for the school will remove 27,200 square feet of asphalt and replace it with new green space and mixed-use recreation and educational areas. The design includes two outdoor classroom areas, an underground cistern, and the addition of 35 stormwater trees. The vision also includes a porous, synthetic turf soccer field to further manage rainwater where it falls. The plan would manage approximately 137,615 gallons of stormwater per rain event.
Much like our famous “Putin is a Dick” crowler initiative for relief in Ukraine, we will have “Fund the Fun” crowlers available starting August 13th where we will match an added $5 cost (making a $10 donation per crowler sold) for every Fund the Fun crowler purchased. Our 32oz. crowlers are sealed with any of our tap beers for you to enjoy at home or out and about. Lakefront patrons may also opt to round up their bills to donate to the cause during the entire month of September.
The marquee fundraising event will be an Adult Spelling Bee at Lakefront Brewery Beer Hall on Thursday, September 19th. We will welcome teams to purchase a table and participate in a bar trivia-style spelling bee where they will work together to properly spell each challenging word. Tables will cost $120 (plus fees) and teams will be allowed up to 6 total people to compete. All table costs will be donated to the project as well as $1 of every beer purchased that day. The top 3 teams will take home Lakefront gift cards as prizes. Funds from a silent auction featuring an array of items will also be donated to the project that night, including a signed Damian Lillard jersey and basketball! While event attendees DO NOT need to purchase a table to attend, get involved, and help the cause, only those with a purchased table can participate in the spelling bee portion of the night.
The event will begin at 5:30PM with the Spelling Bee getting underway at 6:30PM.
Riverwest Elementary has indicated that the redevelopment will cost over $200,000, so they hope the community can rally around the project and participate at any level within their means.
