West Sixth Brewing Deepens Investments in Northern Kentucky with New Taproom in Covington and Distributor Relationship

From
West Sixth:

Covington, KY – July 10th, 2024 – West Sixth Brewing is excited to announce a significant expansion and investment in the communities of Northern Kentucky with the opening of West Sixth Covington Haus and a new distribution relationship with Chas Seligman Distributing Co. The combination will significantly increase the availability of its beers throughout the region.

West Sixth Covington Haus will be located serendipitously at 100 West Sixth Street in Covington, KY.

The building housing West Sixth Covington Haus has a rich history. Originally erected as a firehouse, it boasts beautiful arched windows and intricate exterior stonework. Over the years, it has been home to several notable establishments, including a sports bar named TICKETS and most recently, Flying Axes. But it’s best known as the popular 'Covington Haus' bar and restaurant, led by the late Mick Noll, a relentless advocate for the city of Covington.

“When we found this space and learned the history of the building and the Noll’s involvement in the community, we knew we wanted to pay tribute to the history by naming the location West Sixth Covington Haus,”

- Ben Self (Co-Founder of West Sixth)

“When we found this space and learned the history of the building and the Noll’s involvement in the community, we knew we wanted to pay tribute to the history by naming the location West Sixth Covington Haus,” explained Ben Self, co-founder of West Sixth Brewing. “His family has graciously given their blessing for the use of the name and shared some wonderful stories about the bar's legacy with us.”

“We are very happy to see another new life for The Covington Fire House Number One,” said Ludwig Noll, son of Mick Noll. “My parents, Mick and Pat Noll, spent a lot of life capital saving it from being demolished in the 70s, turning it into Mick Noll’s Covington Haus. Because of their passion, the Covington Haus lives on so that West Sixth Brewing and the people of the region can continue to spread gemütlichkeit within its walls.”

West Sixth Covington Haus will occupy the first floor of the building, while the top floor will continue to host the acclaimed cocktail bar, Second Story. The duo further solidifies the building's reputation as a vibrant community hub.

“West Sixth Brewing is a very successful business in Lexington. Having Lexington’s West Sixth Brewing at 100 West Sixth in Covington is very appropriate,” added Joseph E. Meyer, Mayor of Covington, KY. “Their decision to incorporate the name of the first restaurant after its conversion from a firehouse to a gathering place, Covington Haus, is a fun reference to the past and a fitting nod to Mick Noll and the entire Noll family. Welcome to Covington! We wish West Sixth rousing success.”

The new distributor partnership with Chas Seligman, based in Walton, will further enhance West Sixth's footprint in Northern Kentucky.

“We are very happy to see another new life for The Covington Fire House Number One (…) the Covington Haus lives on so that West Sixth Brewing and the people of the region can continue to spread gemütlichkeit within its walls.”

— Ludwig Noll (Son of Mick Noll)

"We are excited to partner with West Sixth Brewing, one of Kentucky’s largest craft breweries, and bring their exceptional beers to more people in Northern Kentucky," said Jennifer Doering, General Manager at Chas Seligman Distributing Co. "We’re very excited to begin this relationship at the same time they’re opening West Sixth Covington Haus, adding another Kentucky proud product to our Craft portfolio. West Sixth’s commitment to quality and community aligns perfectly with our values, and we look forward to a successful collaboration."

West Sixth's presence in Northern Kentucky will transition from its Box Park location in Newport to West Sixth Covington Haus this fall, with its staff and manager moving to the new space.

“This Northern Kentucky expansion has long been a priority for us and we’re really excited to round out our Kentucky reach with this bigger taproom space," said Ben Self, co-founder of West Sixth Brewing. "We’ll have 20 beers on tap, plenty of space for families and friends, and later this year, a full restaurant. We see these moves as an intentional reinvestment in this area we’ve always been a part of, and it allows us to lean on the Northern Kentucky roots of some of our staff."
