San Diego Brewers Guild appoints Board of Directors, announces event dates for 2024

Modern Times Director of Hospitality Jake Nunes named President;

San Diego Beer Week scheduled for November 1-10

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego Brewers Guild, a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization that promotes local small businesses and entrepreneurs of craft beer, has appointed its Board of Directors and determined event dates for the 2024 calendar year. Modern Times Director of Hospitality Jake Nunes is the new President, and the 16th-Annual San Diego Beer Week will take place November 1-10. Brewers Guild Executive Director Erik Fowler made the announcement.

The 2024 Board of Directors:

Nunes assumes the role of President after serving as Vice President last year and as a Director in 2022. He replaces Belching Beaver’s Haley Smith in the lead position. Nunes has more than 20 years of experience in the local craft beer industry and is a Certified Cicerone®, a certification for skilled beer professionals that is often referred to as the equivalent for sommeliers of wine. Nunes has also worked for Burgeon Beer Company, Societe Brewing Company, North Park Beer Co., Ballast Point, and Stone Brewing during his career. He has also served as an instructor for San Diego State University’s Business of Craft Beer certificate program since its 2013 inception.

Kilowatt’s Davila joins the Board for the first time. Pure Project’s Leguizamon is now in the second year of his two-year term as Secretary. LevitZacks’s Carpenter has served as Treasurer since 2016. Resident’s McMullen returns for a second year as a Director, while Coronado Brewing’s Kennedy joins the Board for the first time as a Director.

“The Guild has assembled a Board of Directors that the entire local craft beer industry should be proud of,” Fowler said. “Jake’s experience speaks for itself, and he is supported by other passionate industry professionals who help San Diego maintain its status as a mecca of craft beer.”

San Diego beer events in 2024 include:

10th-Annual Brewers Guild Golf Tournament – May 9

3rd-Annual SD Beer Weekend – June 21-23

3rd-Annual San Diego Craft Beer Con – August date TBD

16th-Annual San Diego Beer Week – November 1-10

The Brewers Guild also sponsors a Tap Into Knowledge educational series throughout the year, and the next event on February 21 is “Using Packaging As Your Number One Marketing Tool”.

Individual brewery events for throughout the year are posted on the Brewers Guild’s calendar.

“It’s a new year, and it’s a new and improved Brewers Guild.” Nunes said. “Craft beer is one of San Diego’s best industries, and we are dedicated to making it even more of a phenomenon not just locally, but nationally and internationally.”

San Diego County is known as The Capital of Craft™, a moniker that was trademarked in 2015. San Diego has the most craft brewery locations among all counties in the United States with more than 150. The Brewers Guild was founded in 1997 with 15 breweries.
