Today’s brewery is one of the few breweries that I think I’ve been on board since their very beginning and very first beer. The year was 1986 and their Pale Ale found it’s way to the beach with me just weeks after it’s release as their first beer.
The brewery is Summit Brewing and today I’m lucky enough to get an early sip at some new entries in the Sága Goddess Series. I’m talking about Sága Imperial IPA & Sága Tropical IPA, and when I first heard about these beers back in early Dec, I knew I had to try it.
Sága Imperial IPA will be part of the new Summit Brewing Sága Goddess Series Variety Pack and it is joined in that pack by Sága IPA, Sága Hazy IPA & Sága Tropical IPA. Since this pack includes some beers I’ve previously reviewed, today we’ll focus on the new Sága Imperial IPA & Sága Tropical IPA.
Sága Imperial IPA follows closely on the heels of Sága Hazy IPA (released in spring 2023) and it is currently one of the strongest beers that Summit has ever made. At 9%-AbV this beer is a natural evolution of the Sága brand, so naturally I can’t wait to try it…so off we go.
Summit Brewing Sága Imperial IPA
ABV: 9%
IBU: 80 (Centennial, Amarillo, Chinook, Bravo (dry-hopped: Amarillo, Citra, Rakau))
Style: Imperial IPA
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Bright amber
Aroma: Grapefruit, oranges & resinous pine
Mouthfeel: Full bodied
Taste: Caramel malt, grapefruit, tangerine, apricot and earthy pine
Overall: Summit Brewing Sága Imperial IPA has a really interesting and satisfying mix of flavors. The constant presence of grapefruit and citrus is balanced well by the caramel malt and sting of resinous pine hop flavors at the end. Overall the balance and flavors make for a really drinkable IIPA that easily hides the 9%-ABV behind some great flavors and aromas.
Summit Brewing Sága Tropical IPA
ABV: 4.6%
IBU: 40 (Centennial, Amarillo, Bravo (dry-hopped: Amarillo, Amarillo, Galaxy, Rakau))
Style: IPA
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Deep gold
Aroma: Tropical fruits & citrus
Mouthfeel: Medium
Taste: Tropical fruits, passion fruit, sweet oranges & peach
Overall: Summit Brewing Sága Tropical is a really sessionable IPA that is not only fruit-forward but also really drinkable. The combination of passion fruit and peaches made for a really satisfying drinking experience and overall I think the combination of tropical fruits and slightly fruity finish make for a really good IPA.
Summit Brewing Sága Imperial IPA & Sága Tropical IPA are available now in 12oz cans as part of the Sága Goddess Series Variety Pack so get out there are try them all for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think. zzubreebym
