Before you even ask why a beer site is reviewing things like today’s item, keep in mind that I review a lot more than alcohol and food….also keep in mind that I store my beer in the basement, and like most basements, we see an occasional furry visitor.

Today we are test-driving Grandpa Gus’s Mouse Pouches, and as you’ll see, these pouches offer a unique way to safely discourage mice from hanging out in your house. Let’s get the details out up front and then we’ll start the test drive.

According to Grandpa Gus:

I realize up front that it will be a little tricky reviewing these pouches, because after all, mice don’t show up on demand or go away and leave a note as to why they left. I will however place these pouches and continue to check for any signs of mice or any recent evidence of mice being present.

Before I go further, I want to point out what is likely the most important thing to me, and that is the ingredients. Afterall if the pouches aren’t safe or humans, children, or pets, then I simply won’t use them in my home. Grandpa Gus’s Mouse Pouches use peppermint oil, cinnamon oil, calcium carbonate and mineral oil…and that’s it. And while they advise caution when handling the pouches, they are safe for kids and pets.

Each pouch covers 50-square feet and they last between 30-days and 90-days depending on the airflow. I should also mention that they smell so good for a mouse repellent that they almost double as an air freshener.

I started with 4 pouches in my 20-foot x 20-foot basement. I also checked before installing the pouches to see if there was any evidence of mice being present. That way I’m starting with a clean basement and observing what happens over the next 30-days.

Within a week I noticed that my basement smelled like cinnamon and peppermint, which was a pleasant departure from the musty smell it normally has. This gives me confidence that the mice can smell it (and hopefully dislike it) as well.

After the first week there was no evidence of mice in the basement. There we no late night scurrying or scratching noises, and no mouse guano laying around. After a few days longer, that pattern continued with no mouse evidence.

The pouches claim to last 30-days to 90-days so I’ll extend this review and report back if anything changes. I’ll also report back on whether the pouches last as long as they claim. I can say that the aromas from the pouches are still strong so I have no doubt that they will last 30-90 days.

Overall I’d say that Grandpa Gus’s Mouse Pouches are one of the more promising mouse deterrents I’ve tried, and I’ve tested everything from traps to electronic sound devices. The pouches are easy to place and easy to use and they passively deter mice from entering the home. Add in that they smell great and I think you have a winning combination with Grandpa Gus’s Mouse Pouches.

Be sure to try Grandpa Gus’s Mouse Pouches for yourself, and when you do try them, be sure to let us know what YOU thinkzzubreebym
