Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights SweetWater Gummies IIPA (Review)

Sometimes when you read a beer description or see a new beer label, you just know it’s a beer you’re going to love. Whether it’s the beer name or beer description, without even opening the can, you love the beer already. While this rarely pans out once I taste the beer, I’m happy to report that I was fond of today’s beer when I saw the labels, and I’m even fonder of these beers after enjoying them.

Today I’m test driving two different flavors of a new imperial IPA coming from SweetWater Brewing in Atlanta, GA. The beers are called Gummies and we’ll be sampling Gummies Tropical IIPA and Gummies Fruit Punch IIPA.

These beers are both hazy double IPAs so you can expect them to be fruit-forward and you can expect them to be big. I anticipate this line-up of beers will have new flavors in the future, and I expect that they will remain year-round….so this is good news. We should also note that SweetWater was going for an easy-drinking big beer with a more approachable hop profile that the classic (bitter) double IPAs. So did they pull it off? Let’s find out…Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights SweetWater Gummies IIPA (Review)

SweetWater Gummies Tropical IIPA

Brewery Description:  SweetWater Gummies Tropical IIPA combines passionfruit, pineapple, and tangerine to create a tropical medley reminiscent of a refreshing piña colada and freshly squeezed orange juice. With no trace of bitterness and a velvety body, you might mistake this for a tropical cocktail.

ABV:  9.5%
Style:  Hazy IIPA
Packaging:  12oz cans
Appearance:  Bright golden orange
Aroma:  Citrus, pineapple & tropical fruits
Mouthfeel:   Medium & soft
Taste:   Juicy citrus, sweet pineapple, bright oranges and tropical fruits
Overall: Gummies Tropical IIPA has to be one of the most drinkable big double IPAs that I’ve ever tried. The aromas and flavors are a great mix of tropical fruit and citrus, and the mouthfeel really makes this beer dangerously drinkable.

SweetWater Gummies Fruit Punch IIPA

Brewery Description:  SweetWater Gummies Fruit Punch IIPA tantalizes the taste buds with a delightful blend of sweet berry flavors accompanied by a touch of tartness, courtesy of real raspberry, cherry, blueberry, and tangerine. Its low bitterness, silky-smooth body, and captivating pink-red hue create an easy and pleasurable drinking experience.

ABV:  9.5%
Style:  Hazy IIPA
Packaging:  12oz cans
Appearance:  Bright golden orange
Aroma:  Tart berries, citrus, tropical fruits & cherries
Mouthfeel:   Medium & soft
Taste:   Tart raspberry. blueberry, cherries and a touch of citrus
Overall: Gummies Fruit Punch IIPA reminds me of my childhood Hawaiian Punch juice, only with carbonation (and alcohol). The mix of flavorful berries and the soft mouthfeel once again make for a really enjoyable drinking experience. I like this one a bit better than the Tropical flavor, but they’re both very tasty.
