I should admit up from that every time I hear or say the name of today’s beer, my mind breaks into the song Lollipop by the Chordettes. This is actually a good thing, and at 2-minutes and 15-seconds long, I may actually reach the bottom of the can before the song ends. This may have been a bit of a stretch with the former 16oz cans, but with the exciting announcement that this beer is going year-round in 12oz cans, it may be a bit easier to get to the bottom in 2:15.
Of course I’m joking about slamming this beer, but I’m not joking about how excited I am to see this beer hit 12oz cans AND be year-round. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m talking about Tröegs Lollihop and the news that it will be the first year-round DIPA from Tröegs.
First brewed in 2019, Lollihop uses Citra, Mosaic & Azacca hops as well as PA-grown rustic pale malt, wheat, and oats and the combination really works. I should also mention that the new 12oz cans were drawn by Baltimore-based artist Devin Watson who refreshed his original Art Of Tröegs design for the 16oz cans.
While I know this beer well and it lives in my ‘fridge once a year, I can’t wait to try out the new 12oz cans…so off we go…
Tröegs Lollihop
ABV: 8.2%
Style: Double IPA
Packaging: 12oz Cans
Appearance: Bright gold
Aroma: Grapefruit, orange, melon & mild pineapple
Mouthfeel: Medium & crisp
Taste: Grapefruit, juicy oranges, pineapple and sweet melon
Overall: Lollihop has a great mix of tropical fruits and citrus that really makes the beer drinkable and satisfying. The punch of bittersweet grapefruit and soft sweet melon work well together and the clean finish makes it a really enjoyable beer to drink. Overall this has to be one of my favorite Tröegs beers as well as one of my favorite double IPAs.
Tröegs Lollihop is available now and year-round in 12oz canned 6-packs as well as on draft, so get out there and try it for yourself….and when you do taste it, be sure to let us know what YOU think. zzubreebym
