From Terrapin:
With over 10,000 fan votes, Rye Pale Ale is the
2020 Terrapin tournament winner
Athens, GA - The much-anticipated Rye Pale Ale is now available this week from Terrapin Beer Co. This is the first time that Terrapin’s Rye has been back on store shelves since its discontinuation in 2018. This classic Terrapin brew was the inaugural beer that was produced by the brewery back in 2002. That same year, it went on to win the gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival for best Pale Ale in the country.
Co-founder and VP of Brewing Development, Spike Buckowski, is excited to bring back this classic, “For me, re-releasing the Rye Pale Ale brings up a flood of memories and emotions. When we launched this brand back in 2002, John and I had no idea how this beer would change the landscape of brewing and beer drinking in the state of Georgia. For some craft beer drinkers, the Rye was the first craft beer they had ever tried.”
Last March, Terrapin launched a social media contest where fans had the opportunity to vote to bring any one of the brewery’s classics back to the line-up for 2021. The fan contest started with 16 beers in a tournament bracket-style competition. Over the course of 3 weeks, fans voted, and Rye Pale Ale was the unanimous choice, with over 10,000 total votes. This Terrapin classic is still dry-hopped with Amarillo hops and brewed with malted Rye for a distinct aroma and a remarkably clean finish that is sure to be in tune with your taste.
In addition, to commemorate this special occasion, Terrapin has produced a unique Wooden Art piece with the Rye Pale Ale graphics burned into solid maple. This is available for purchase at the Terrapin store at

Rye Pale Ale will be available to distributors across Terrapin’s entire distribution footprint on draft and in 6-packs. For a limited time only. Be one of the firsts to get it by picking it up curbside starting Wednesday, February 24th or look for it in stores the week of March 1st.
Terrapin Beer Co. began as a passion for beer between founders Brian “Spike” Buckowski and John Cochran. The two brewed and released their first beer in 2002, a Rye Pale Ale that went on to win a gold medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival (GABF). Inspired by the creative culture of Athens, Ga., the brewery’s home, Terrapin works to create unique experiences through its craft beers and is distributed in 22 states. In 2019, Terrapin launched Terraprint, which focuses on environmental sustainability and community outreach.
