Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Summit Brewing Oatmeal Stout (Review)

For as long as I can remember, this time of year has been dominated by big double IPA’s and seasonal hop-forward beers. I don’t know about most of you, but as we slip out of winter and start leaning toward spring, I start leaning toward dark beers. I know summer is coming, but I think this time of year is perfect for stouts.

With that in mind, I was excited to find out that Summit Brewing would be helping out by bringing back their Oatmeal Stout and bringing it back in bottles. This beer was previously a nitro draft-only beer (for 17-years), so having the opportunity to enjoy one at home out of a bottle is great news.

Oatmeal Stout is brewed with 2-Row Pale, Caramel, Oats, Crystal, Roasted Barley and Chocolate malts as well as Northern Brewer, Pilgrim and Fuggle hops and the combination gives this beer a decidedly UK-stout feel. Of course I can’t wait to try this beer out of a bottle so off we go…Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Summit Brewing Oatmeal Stout (Review)

Summit Brewing Oatmeal Stout

ABV:  5%
IBU: 32
Style:  Stout
Packaging:  12oz bottles
Appearance:  Deep black
Aroma:  Chocolate, nutty and slightly floral hops
Mouthfeel:   Soft and creamy
Taste:   Milk chocolate, toffee and roasted nuts
Overall:  Oatmeal Stout has a really nice blend of flavors that you’d expect in a sweeter stout, but with an enjoyable punch of sweet chocolate, caramel candy and mild coffee notes. The combination and balance of the beer make it really drinkable and at a sessionable 5%-AbV (and in 12oz bottles) you can now enjoy more than one.

Summit Brewing Oatmeal Stout is available now in 12oz bottle singles as well as 12-packs across their distribution footprint. Get out there and try this beer in bottles for yourself and see if you agree with me…and as always, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
