Today I have a new coffee beer variant coming from Saint Arnold in Houston, TX. This is 2020 Cognac Barrel French Press and it will be an imperial coffee porter that is aged in Cognac barrels. The beer will use Java Pura coffee and roll in at 9.3%-AbV. You’re looking at the 12oz bottle and stay tuned for release info.

Cognac Barrel French Press with Geisha Coffee
Earlier this week, French Press - our Imperial Coffee Porter - returned for its annual appearance alongside a couple of barrel aged versions. Now, we are excited to announce an extra special version, available for presale: Cognac Barrel French Press with Geisha Coffee.
Geisha coffee - one of the world's most expensive and sought after varieties - is known for its berry and fruit forward flavors. For this beer, we worked with our local friends at Java Pura to source Anaerobic Cascade Hopped Geisha beans from Ratibor Hartmann's Mi Finquita Microlot in Panama. Even at $100/lb, we were happy to purchase the last of the lot.
What makes these beans so special? In this experimental batch, the farm fermented the whole coffee cherries in a drum using a process called anaerobico. To control the bacterial part of the fermentation, Cascade hops were added, reducing acidity and imparting a subtle hop flavor to the coffee. Our Innovation Brewer & Barrel Manager Colin Klingemann had the pleasure of visiting the farm last year to see this fermentation in action (and sample other experimental coffees - tough gig).
The end result is a coffee with potent notes of blueberry, citrus, raspberry, and black tea. On top of the acute flavors of grape brandy imparted by the Cognac barrels, this beer has a truly wild fruit forward profile.

Cherry On Top Now Available
Earlier this week, we debuted a new limited release beer: Cherry On Top, a Berliner Weisse with a touch of real cherries coming in at 3.8% ABV and 7 IBU. For this recipe, we used our traditional German-style Berliner Weisse, Boiler Room, and added tart cherry puree. This addition created a balanced flavor with the lemon zest character of the base beer and a nice cherry aroma and finish.
Cherry On Top is available now only at our Beer Garden & Restaurant and only while supplies last. You can order online for curbside pickup or drive thru for beer to-go.
