Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Flying Dog Kujo w/Vigilante Coffee (Review)What can I say about Flying Dog that I haven’t said already? The beer is amazing, the Ralph Steadman artwork is an instant classic and the irreverent sense of humor in the beer names always makes me smirk.

Flying Dog has been in my belly for almost 30-years and I’ll always remember telling their story on the radio for the first time many years ago. I always chat up the flying dog painting in Pakistan, but as they put it, “more than 30 years ago, a group of oxygen and alcohol-deprived amateur hikers convened in a Pakistan hotel room after summiting the world’s deadliest mountain. There Flying Dog was born.”

Of course I’m still enjoying the beers and of course it never gets old when I get to sample their beers. Today I’m doing just that with a returning brew coming from Flying Dog called Kujo Cold Brew Coffee Porter.

Of course I’m familiar with this beer, but if you’re not, Kujo is a porter brewed with a blend of 100% Columbian coffee. The coffee comes from Vigilante Coffee COmpany and it consists of a unique blend of Caturra beans sourced from small farms located in Huila and Tolima. According to Flying Dog the beans “are grown at 1600 meters, the peaberries and beans are of a smaller grading size and are what give this coffee the nickname Caturrita (little catturra).” Vigilante purchases the coffee directly from the small producers so the growers are guaranteed top dollar for their beans.

This Vigilante collaboration was brewed with coffee that had the roasting process adjusted to compliment the beer and the coffee is added on the cold-side of the brewing process to lower the bitterness. Naturally I can’t wait to re-sample the beer….so off we go…
