Many moons ago I crossed paths with a beer simply called #9. I don’t think at the time I had ever tasted a beer with apricot added, but I distinctly remember loving it at the first sip. Of course I’m talking about Magic Hat #9 and of course we’ll be sampling another new beer coming from the South Burlington, VT brewery.
Today I’ll be breaking into a new can from Magic Hat called Bartlett Bay. Named for the road that the brewery lives on, this new beer is a Margarita-style gose that originated in Magic Hat’s pilot series. This gose-style ale is brewed with orange, lime and that traditional salt you’d expect in a gose. The beer will be packaged in 12oz brightly-colored cans for a May/June release and with a sessionable AbV, it’s just in time for summer…so off we go.
Magic Hat Bartlett Bay Margarita Gose
ABV: 3%
IBU: 7
Style: Gose
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Hazy golden orange color
Aroma: Sweet oranges and tart citrus
Mouthfeel: Medium and effervescent
Taste: Orange peel and sweet oranges up front with tart lime, citrus and a slightly salty finish.
Overall: Bartlett Bay is a tropical twist on a traditional gose-style ale. The balance of nectarine and lime margarita flavors makes for a really drinkable mix of sweet and tart flavors. The punch of salt at the end cleans everything up nicely and makes you want another sip…and another…and another.
Magic Hat Bartlett Bay Margarita Gose will be available soon in 12oz cans throughout Magic Hat’s distribution footprint so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
PS A big thank you to Magic Hat for including a fresh can of #9 for me to sample. It is still to this day one of my favorite apricot beers and a classic in my beer history for sure.
