Just last week I brought you the news that Boulevard Brewing was launching a new line of hard seltzers. The seltzers are called Quirk Spiked & Sparkling Hard Seltzer and they are created with real fruit juice and “clean all natural ingredients.”
According to Boulevard, this line of seltzers “offers a fresh take on hard seltzers, with bold ingredient combinations and real fruit juice yielding subtle but spectacular flavor.” Each flavor rolls in at just 90 calories and less than 5g carbs and the combinations of fruit and in some cases herbs are really unique. It is Boulevard’s goal to move seltzers forward much like they have with beers, and I think these flavors will be a great start. Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not really claiming to be well-versed in seltzer tasting, but the flavor mixes sound tasty to me….so off we go.
Boulevard Quirk Spiked & Sparkling Strawberry Lemon & Basil
ABV: 4.2%
Style: Hard Seltzer
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Crystal clear pink
Aroma: Lemon & fresh berries
Mouthfeel: Light with medium carbonation
Taste: Prominent lemon and strawberries with subtle herbal finish.
Overall: Quirk Strawberry, Lemon & Basil offers an interesting and drinkable mix of fresh berries, tart lemon and an earthy herbal basil finish. The combination is crisp and thirst quenching and the flavor mix makes for a really drinkable hard seltzer.
Boulevard Quirk Spiked & Sparkling Blackberry Sage
ABV: 4.2%
Style: Hard Seltzer
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Crystal clear purple
Aroma: Blackberry & mild savory herbal notes
Mouthfeel: Light with medium carbonation
Taste: Fresh berries, savory sage and just a touch of citrus.
Overall: Quirk Blackberry Sage is a unique blend of bright and slightly tart blackberries with just enough herbal sage to balance the mix out nicely. This simple combination of fruit and herbs has a lot to offer, and as always it is crisp, clean and really drinkable.
Boulevard Quirk Spiked & Sparkling Pear Yuzu
ABV: 4.2%
Style: Hard Seltzer
Packaging: 12oz cans
Appearance: Crystal clear amber
Aroma: Sweet pear & tropical fruits
Mouthfeel: Light with medium carbonation
Taste: Fresh bright pear flavors & just a touch of tropical fruits.
Overall: Quirk Pear Yuzu has a really inspired mix of pear and yuzu, and while I’m not really sure I can pick out the Yuzu, the combination was really flavorful and drinkable. This was perhaps my favorite of the three flavors and it’s a really simple but perfect fruit seltzer combination.
Boulevard Quirk Spiked & Sparkling Hard Seltzers will be available soon (June in the Midwest) so get out there and try all three flavors for yourself. And when you do try them, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
