As we roll into summer 2019, I’ve finally started buying and enjoying the summer styles that hit our beer shelves every year. Sometimes I’m interviewing the beers for my beach beer of the year, and sometimes I’m just taking the time to enjoy the lighter summer styles, but I’m always on the lookout for all things peach.
I’ve admitted it before, but I really love peach beers, and while I swore I had already tried every available combination, North Coast Brewing came up with a new one.
Today we’ll be sampling a returning seasonal beer that was first brewed a few years ago by North Coast, and of course it has the word “peach” in it….so off we go.
The beer is called Passion Fruit-Peach Berliner Weisse, and it is brewed with California-grown peaches and passion fruit from Brazil. The beer pours a rich golden color with loads of fruit-forward aromas. I immediately picked out peach, but the passion fruit aromas are certainly there. This beer feels and tastes like a classic Berliner-style Weisse with the tart flavors leading the way and the sweet flavors following after. The mix of stone fruit flavors really plays well with the spontaneously soured tartness of the beer, and that tart/sweet play really makes if very drinkable. Passion Fruit-Peach Berliner Weisse is thirst quenching but satisfying and the effervescent mouthfeel makes for a really nice summer beer experience. At 4.1%-AbV and 0 IBU Passion Fruit-Peach Berliner Weisse is definitely sessionable and definitely a contender for my 2019 beach beer. Now if I can only get North Coast to put it in 12oz cans!
North Coast Passion Fruit-Peach Berliner Weisse is available now in 12oz bottle 4-packs, 22oz bottles as well as kegs, so get out there and try it for yourself. And when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
