Anchor Brewing Drink Steam Week Returns NationwideFrom Anchor Brewing:

Anchor Brewing Celebrates the Return of Drink Steam Week, Commemorating the San Francisco Original that Started the Craft Beer Movement

San Francisco, CA (July 25, 2018) – For the fourth year in a row, Anchor Brewing Company will celebrate America’s first handcrafted beer, Anchor Steam® Beer, with the return of Drink Steam Week taking place August 12-19, 2018.  Back in 2015, the Mayor of San Francisco proclaimed the third week of August to be Drink Steam Week, celebrating Anchor’s revolutionary role in the American craft beer movement and continued commitment to brewing in San Francisco.  This summer, Drink Steam Week will consist of celebrations across the country to honor Anchor’s profound 122-year history.

“Drink Steam Week is a nationwide tribute to Anchor’s flagship and the pioneer of the American craft beer movement, Anchor Steam,” said Anchor Brewing Company CEO and President Matt Davenport.  “Founded in 1896, Anchor has held steadfast to its traditional brewing techniques and high quality standards, including the unique process of open fermentation, using whole-cone hops, and brewing in a manually-operated, classic copper brewhouse.  Anchor Steam Beer is the foundation of both Anchor Brewing and the craft beer movement, and that’s a legacy we can come together to celebrate.”

Although Drink Steam Week originated in San Francisco, beer fans can join the festivities from coast-to-coast with more cities and regions participating than ever before.  For a full list of events and special offerings happening throughout Drink Steam Week, visit www.drinksteam.com.

While festivities span the country, Anchor will also be celebrating where it all started—the brewery.  Beer fans are encouraged to join a brewery tour and tasting to get a glimpse at centuries-old craft brewing traditions, a bit of San Francisco history, and a generous tasting of select Anchor beers.  Tours are available daily, reservations are required and can be made atwww.anchorbrewing.com/brewery/tours.

Celebrations will also extend to Anchor Public Taps, the pilot brewery and bar located just across the street from the iconic brewery.  As an exclusive offering to honor the heritage and legacy of Anchor Steam Beer, Unfiltered Steam Beer will be on tap for the duration of Drink Steam Week.  It’s the Anchor Steam Beer fans know and love, but unfiltered.  When asking an Anchor Brewer how they like to drink Anchor Steam they’ll say, “straight from the cellar tanks.”  This beer is Anchor extending that special experience to its fans.

Guests at all Drink Steam Week events are encouraged to grab an Anchor Steam and share the moment on social media by using #RaiseYourAnchor and #DrinkSteam.  Anchor Brewing will be sharing the most interesting photos and videos from around the country on @anchorbrewing throughout the week.  Below is a list of official Drink Steam Destinations around the country:

About Anchor Brewing Company

Anchor Brewing Company’s roots date back to the California Gold Rush making it one of America’s oldest breweries. Its Anchor Steam® Beer is San Francisco’s original since 1896. In 1965, Fritz Maytag acquired and revived the struggling brewery at a time when mass production of beer dominated and seemed unstoppable. Maytag started a revolution in beer that originated today’s craft beer movement. An undisputed icon, Anchor is America’s first craft brewery where beers are handmade in our traditional copper brewhouse from an all-malt mash. At Anchor, we practice the time-honored art of classical brewing, employing state-of-the-art methods to ensure that our beers are always pure and fresh. We know of no brewery in the world that matches our efforts to combine traditional, natural brewing with such carefully applied, modern methods of sanitation, finishing, packaging and transporting.
