BrewDog Launches US vs UK 4th Of July Showdown

BrewDog Launches US vs UK 4th Of July ShowdownFrom BrewDog:

Next Wednesday the calendar flips over to the 4th of July, a date when many a craft beer will be sunk in the United States of America. For the past few years we have brought a little slice of those celebrations over the Atlantic, by showcasing amazing beer from a single brewing representative of the two great nations; the ultimate US vs UK Showdown. And next week, we are sounding the bell for another round.

On Wednesday 4th July our UK Bars will be staging an epic match between two new modern heavyweights. And you can vote to see who wins!

We have hand-picked a series of beers from a pair of breweries at the very tops of their game; two beermakers who are making waves whilst still remaining hugely underrated. From this side of the Pond, the UK representatives will be the mighty Northern Monk. The pride of Leeds have dispatched a dozen of their beers, many of them brand new and never before released.

So next Wednesday we will the pouring beers including a 10% Triple IPA (Moobin’ On Up), a new 12% Cherry Imperial Stout, a Burgundy Barrel-Aged Imperial Saison and the returning Neapolitan Ice Cream Pale Ale. Plus we have three Patron’s Project releases including two new ones – a DDH IPA and a New England Steam Lager. These are beers you won’t want to miss!

Just as Northern Monk are a perfect depiction of the brewing scene on this side of the Atlantic, we have an equally amazing brewery from the US for our 4th of July Showcase. We have air-freighted a container of beers that have never been seen in the UK before from the best American brewery you may never have heard of – Odd Side Ales.

These guys are epic. Three expansions in seven years tells its own story; from their beginnings in a converted piano factory in Grand Haven, Michigan they make stunning beer by turning their backs on the conventional. Expect super-hopped IPAs, barrel-aged mango Belgian ales, dry-hopped saisons and an 11% bourbon barrel-aged chocolate, coffee and hazelnut imperial stout.

Oh, and we also have five kegs of Odd Side’s Razzle Dazzle – a raspberry wheat brewed with edible glitter. Yes - #glitterbeer is now in the UK!

To take things to another level our amazing kitchen crew will also be duking it out with two unique burgers celebrating the best elbows-out dining from each country. From the UK a loaded burger with cheddar, black pudding, smoked bacon and a fried egg (because why not) and squaring up to it, a tower of American beef featuring onion rings, cheese, streaky bacon and pickles.

You can vote for whichever brewery you think deserves to win (and whichever burger, if you like) as we will have a link on the beer table menus to follow and rate each of the beers you try out of 5. Scores will be tallied up and on the 5th of July the victor of the Independence Day showcase will be announced. Whether that will be Northern Monk or Odd Side Ales is up to you!

You can find the beers pouring at your local UK BrewDog Bar next Wednesday, the 4th of July. Whichever side of the pond your feelings lean towards – enjoy great beer and food with us next week. Here’s to Independence!
