We brought you the full GABF 2017 results, now we have exciting GABF news from Shiner:
SHINER, TX – October 9, 2017 – The Spoetzl Brewery and its iconic Shiner Bock came home a winner this weekend from the Great American Beer Festival (GABF), picking up a silver medal in the American-style Amber Lager category.
The GABF is produced by the Brewers Association, the trade association dedicated to small and independent American brewers. GABF is the largest competition for judging U.S. made beers, and considered one of the most difficult and prestigious beer competitions in the world.
This year 7,923 different beers from 2,217 American breweries were submitted to a panel of 276 beer experts from around the world. Only 293 total medals were awarded – gold, silver and bronze medals in 98 categories – to 266 of the best commercial U.S. breweries.
Shiner Bock, first brewed in 1913, is one of the oldest beers to be honored in the competition. It’s not Bock’s first trip to the GABF podium, having won medals in four previous years. Bock has also been recognized by other prominent international beer competitions, including the World Beer Cup, the Australian International Beer Awards and the European Beer Star Awards.
The Spoetzl Brewery was founded in Shiner, Texas (population 2,069), in 1909, brewing beer with old-world traditions and recipes for the many German and Czech settlers in Central Texas. Since then, the brewery has grown to be one of the largest independent craft brewers in the country, available in 49 states and Mexico. But every drop of our award-winning beer is still brewed right where it all started 108 years ago. Visit us at www.shiner.com.
