More exciting fresh hop release news….today it’s from Brewery Ommegang:
As hop harvest wraps up in NY, we are proud to once again shine the spotlight on New York State hop farmers with the release of Hopstate NY IPA, the third annual vintage of Hopstate NY beer, brewed with all-NYS hops. Brewed to help support the state’s burgeoning hop industry, this year’s Hopstate NY is an India Pale Ale, and the beer is available now only in NY State on draft and in four-packs.
The hop industry has deep roots in NY State. The region was the epicenter of hops production in the United States in the 1800s, producing 80% of the country’s hops. For the past several years, Ommegang, which is located on the former Lynes Hop Farm in Cooperstown, NY, has purchased New York State-grown and processed hops. Hops for this year’s beer were sourced from Weathertop Farm in Palmyra, Pedersen Farms in Seneca Castle, Willet Hop & Grain in Willet, and Mosher Farm in Bouckville.
From our president, Doug Campbell: “In this, our third year of the Hopstate NY program, we are extremely proud to contribute to the continued advancement of the hop farming trade throughout New York. We are delighted to see the continued growth of Farm Breweries around the state and we continue to believe that with the sustained support of brewers, New York’s hop famers can regain their rightful place among the world’s most respected hop-growing regions.”
At 7.4% ABV, Hopstate NY IPA is brewed with Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, and Nugget hops, and is fermented with an English ale yeast. The beer pours a hazy pale orange with a fluffy white head. The aroma is bursting with tropical fruit and citrus notes balanced by hints of sweet malt. The flavor follows the aroma with tropical fruit, and citrus hop character upfront balanced by a pleasantly sweet bready malt character. Balanced bitterness spreads across the whole palate, paired with a velvety-smooth mouthfeel and a medium-full body. The finish is moderately dry with just a touch of lingering bitterness. Hopstate NYIPA pairs well with grilled and smoked meats and fish, pizza, burgers, and moderately sharp cheeses.
This year, Hopstate NY IPA is only available in New York but as the local hop industry grows, this beer may expand to new states, symbolizing its rebirth and vitality. The beer is available now in 12oz. four-packs for the suggested retail price of $10.99. Our website offers a beer finder for locating retailers by zip code in case you’re thirsty to try this!
Cheers!
