Exciting prototype challenge news coming from BrewDog:
The people have spoken. The polls on our 2017 Prototype Challenge were open for a whole month, but such was the response for one of the trio that the result was never really in doubt. Three very different beers squared off to see which would become a regular re-brew for us (and you), and from the moment the vote opened on the 17th of August one of them raced off into an early lead that was never close to being overhauled.
Your Prototype Champion for 2017 is the Tangerine Session IPA.

In a landslide victory the citrus-heavy juice bomb ended up scoring 49% of the overall vote, leaving its stablemates cantering along in the background. Securing a whisker under half the entire vote is a quite remarkable – and a higher tally than the previous Prototype winner, the oatmeal milk stout that went on to become Jet Black Heart.
In second place was the Double IPA with 27% of the vote, just ahead of the Black Rye IPA on 24% - but securing a quarter of the support just wasn’t going to cut it with the zest-forward rocket flying out of the blocks from day one. So now it’s up to us to make that tangerine dream a reality for the hundreds of people who took the time to register their vote for it throughout our month-long poll!
If you’re new to the Prototype chase, once the medals have been awarded the winner is brewed again, and we’ll be dialling in several batches of the Tangerine Session IPA from now on. If you didn’t get the chance to try it, or piled through your Prototypes with abandon then you can pick up the Tangerine Session IPA online here and the three-pack of contenders here!
Thanks again to everyone who registered their opinion, and we love the fact that this contest has uncovered such BrewDog staples as Jack Hammer, Cocoa Psycho and Vagabond Pale Ale (to name but three). We’ll update you all on when the first batch of Tangerine Session IPA is ready to go and can’t wait to get the Prototypes tuned in for 2018. After all, your new favourite beer could be among them!
If there’s any styles you think we should include as a Prototype next year, let’s hear them!
