Some interesting and confusing beer news coming from STLToday:
In a long-vacant building that once housed the brewer’s starting and fermenting operations, A-B recently opened the Star Shop Brewery. The name is a nod to the nickname for the building’s former use, “the star shop,” and the brewery’s location in Soulard, where dozens of red brick buildings are adorned with stars, said Dusty Rhodes, brewmaster at Star Shop and A-B’s St. Louis brewery reliability manager.
Employees start with identifying the kind of beer they want to brew and select from more than a dozen different kinds of hops and several kinds of malt. Next, they mill the grain in a grinder.
So far, the small batch brewery is open to A-B employees. However, the brewery did open Star Shop Brewery to the public this summer for a day during St. Louis Craft Beer Week. The brewery is evaluating opening up the space for more public events. “We’re excited about where it’s going to go,” Moore said. “My dream would be for us to fit in a consumer experience.”
