Celebrating Kentucky Home: New Recipe & Bottle Release

Braxton Brewing Company is excited to celebrate the traditions that make the Commonwealth uncommon. Beginning today, you can pre-order their Mint Julep Style Ale.

Kentucky Home is a Strong Golden Ale aged in bourbon barrels and infused with fresh mint to celebrate the Kentucky Derby. This is the third time that the brewery has brewed this beer but this year’s recipe used a stronger base beer resulting in a 9.5% ABV finished product.

Reserve Kentucky Home

“We are really excited for this year’s release. In past years, the beer finished around 6% ABV. This year, we felt that for the different layers and overall complex flavor profile, a slightly larger, more full, base beer was needed,” said Evan Rouse Co-Founder and COO of Braxton Brewing Company. “This is a strong golden ale that has been sitting in freshly dumped Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels for several weeks, and is topped off with fresh mint. If you haven’t had this offering in years past, do yourself a favor and grab one before you watch the most exciting two minutes in sports!”

Up to three bottles per person can be reserved online and a limited number of bottles will be released to the public on Saturday, April 15th in the brewery’s taproom for the official bottle release and tapping. Bottles and draft beer will also be distributed throughout the company’s current footprint in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington and Dayton. The 22 oz. bottles will be available for $10.99. Throughout Derby season, Braxton will periodically feature Kentucky Home on draft by serving it in this year’s Derby glass.

The Covington-based brewing company will also be hosting a Derby Day Party celebrating their Kentucky Home. More details on each of these events can be found on the company’s Facebook page.

“As a Kentucky Brewery, we have loved creating this tradition to commemorate such an iconic event,” said Jake Rouse, Co-Founder and CEO of Braxton Brewing Company. “This year, we’ll be celebrating the Derby in style at our taproom and in our distribution network with this iconic beer!”

The bottle label reads:

There’s magic in that moment. As the thoroughbreds stride from the paddock to the Post Parade the crowd rises, the familiar music begins, and together everyone sings “My Old Kentucky Home.” Yet that tradition, growing ever more beautiful by the year, isn’t the only one on that first Saturday in May. There are roses, Mint Juleps (oh, the Mint Juleps), and of course, the most exciting two minutes in sports. So let’s lift one to the traditions that make this Commonwealth uncommon. Enjoy this Kentucky Home, a smooth blend of our beer with hints of Julep Bourbon and oak. They’re at the post…”

You can reserve your bottles here and join Braxton for an exciting month leading up to the “most exciting two minutes in sports.”
