From Braxton:
Last year, we hosted our first-ever homebrew competition — Hammerdown Brewcup. Our history with homebrewing, however, goes back much further than this competition. Evan began his brewing career as a homebrewer in the garage on Braxton Drive in Union, Kentucky. It’s that passion and that community that helped Braxton become a reality as Braxton Brewing Company.
Now, in our second year we’re excited to continue to celebrate homebrewing. At our 2nd anniversary, we’ll be tapping Hammerdown Altbier. This beer won our 2016 Hammerdown Brewcup and has now been scaled up to be available on draft this Spring and we’re tapping it at our anniversary.
Hammerdown Altbier is a traditional amber-colored German ale, balanced between assertive bitterness from GR Magnum, Spalt, and Hallertau Hops and heavy maltiness bringing toast, toffee, and caramel. This beer is known for its medium body and dry, clean finish due to being fermented at cooler temperatures.
In addition to bringing back the winning beer, we’re also bringing back the homebrew competition! The Northern Kentucky Homebrewers Guild and Braxton Brewing Company have teamed up to host the Hammerdown Brewcup Homebrew Competition. The BJCP sanctioned competition will take place at Braxton on Saturday, April 22nd 2017. Judging will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the award ceremony to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Covington brewery. The competition is limited to 350 entries. There is a 10 entry limit per brewer and a $7 fee per entry. Proceeds from the competition will be donated to charity.
