Here’s a new Heritage Series beer coming from Braxton Brewing in Covington, KY. This is Snow Shovel and it is a Caribbean Rum barrel-aged ale (1-year) brewed with cinnamon, ginger and local honey. Snow Shovel will hit 11.4%-AbV and this is the 22oz bottle.
UPDATE 1 Nov 2016 from Braxton:
Braxton Brewing Co. is extremely excited to be releasing the next beer in its Heritage Series. Rum Barrel-Aged Snow Shovel is a winter warmer that was brewed with ginger, cinnamon and local honey and then aged in Caribbean Rum Barrels for a year.
“Rum Barrel-Aged Snow Shovel has turned into quite the project,” said Evan Rouse, Braxton Brewing Company Co-Founder & Head Brewer. “When the base beer was released last year it was very complex and had many layers. As a young brewery, we were still trying to build out a barrel-aging program. Snow Shovel was the perfect fit at this time. I have been anxiously awaiting this release since the team sat for barrel tasting a few weeks ago and we all agreed…it was time.”
Snow Shovel was first brewed last year during the winter months. One of the brewery’s most popular seasonal releases, the brewers of the Covington-based brewery felt that the ginger, cinnamon and honey notes best complemented rum barrels.
The 11.4% ABV winter warmer can now be reserved on the company’s website. Rum Barrel-Aged Snow Shovel is packaged in 22 oz. bottles with a label making the shape of a snow shovel. Individuals can reserve up to three bottles between now and Friday, November 4th at 5:00pm. The bottles can be picked up at the brewery’s taproom between Saturday, November 5th and Saturday, November 12th during normal business hours. More details can be found on the company’s website where the reservation is taking place.
A very limited amount of bottles and draft Rum Barrel-Aged Snow Shovel will be available in the company’s distribution network in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington and Dayton.
“When Snow Shovel released last year, we were incredibly excited about how the winter warmer turned out. After aging it for an entire year in freshly dumped rum barrels, I can say it’s a release we’re thrilled to share before the Holidays.” said Jake Rouse, Braxton Brewing Company Co-Founder & CEO. “These freshly dumped Caribbean rum barrels make for a Snow Shovel you’re not going to want to miss!”
An extremely limited number of bottles are available now to be reserved. If any bottles are not reserved by Friday, November 4th at 5pm, they will be released to the public. The brewery does not expect many bottles, if any at all, to be available without a reservation.
The brewery, once again, worked with Durham Brand & Co. on the label design.
“Barrel-Aged beers always have a special sense of uniqueness with the time and flavor born from each batch. And that’s no different with each label design – to craft and capture something special for each release,” said Austin Dunbar, Durham Brand & Co. Founder. “This Snow Shovel was brought to life with foils, metallics, hits of a matte finish, and a surprising label shape to give a unique in-hand experience, that caught light in different spots like the first snow on the front porch.”
Remaining bottle quantities and updates will be communicated through Braxton Brewing Co.’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
We also have a Homemade Batch Collab Series release of Graeter’s black raspberry chocolate chip milk stout 12oz cans (7%-AbV, 30 IBU), Storm golden cream ale (4.8%-AbV, 17 IBU) & 1957 All Star Ale English-style mild (4%-AbV, 17 IBU).
