Portland, OR - In 2015, the nonprofit Pink Boots Society teamed up with Treasures of Europe Tours to offer an intimate, behind the scenes tour of the historic Bavarian beer industry and Bavarian beer culture. Rather than a visit to Munich’s Oktoberfest, the tour focused on a range of breweries, female brewers and suppliers in settings throughout Bavaria that fostered professional exchange and cultural insights. That trip was so successful, PBS is offering it again in 2016. The tour is open to anyone interested in beer, Bavarian culture, and unique travel opportunities.
Beer, Bratwurst & Beyond is set to embark October 14, 2016. Among those going are six PBS members awarded Cultural Immersion scholarships and four delegates, also awarded travel scholarships. Scholarships were granted thanks to the generosity of sponsors Boston Beer Company, Oskar Blues Brewery, BSG CraftBrewing, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, Barth Haas, and Craft Beer Importers (Canada). Compared to 2015, this year’s trip saw increases in the number of sponsors (75%), scholarships (67%) and applicants (27%).
Thirty-eight PBS members from across the globe applied for the scholarships representing a wide array of brewing industry professionals. Award winners and delegates represent the United States and Canada.
The following six women were awarded Cultural Immersion Travel scholarships:
-
Caroline Wallace, Texas Craft Breweries, Events Manager
-

-
Stephanie Arsenault, Global Dish, Writer/Photographer
-

A trip veteran herself, PBS board president Laura Ulrich of Stone Brewing said, “On behalf of Pink Boots Society and its board members we are thrilled at the wonderful support we have received from our corporate sponsors. Without them and their support Pink Boots Society and the annual Cultural Immersion trip would not take place. We chose women from ALL aspects of the brewing industry who we felt would best represent PBS as well as allow this scholarship to help advance their careers in the brewing industry.”
