From Anheuser-Busch:
HOUSTON, TX. (May 9, 2016) – They say everything is bigger in Texas, and this week the Anheuser-Busch Houston brewery will be home to some big celebrations for the brewery’s 50th anniversary. From bringing together community leaders to appearances from the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales, the Houston brewery will be buzzing with activity in honor of five decades of brewing history.
“We are deeply ingrained in the Houston community and thrilled to celebrate 50 great years with our employees and the city,” said Peter Roberts, general manager of Anheuser-Busch’s Houston brewery. “From job creation to employee volunteerism to beer education, the Houston brewery is a vibrant part of our local community. And while we’re celebrating this milestone, we’re thinking about the future and how we can continue to grow and innovate for the next 50 years.”
Since 1966, the Houston brewery has been proudly brewing and delivering beers for the people of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma. But the brewery’s impact doesn’t stop there. The Anheuser-Busch Houston Brewery is recognized for its leadership in the following areas:
Economic Impact
Anheuser-Busch is proud that it’s created 1,000 jobs in Texas and during the last five years, the company has also invested $96 million to add new capabilities, increase efficiencies, and sustain existing operations at the Houston brewery.
Environmental Sustainability
On average, 30 percent of the brewery’s energy needs are met by alternative energy and in 2014 its tractor fleet was the company’s first to convert to cleaner-burning Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), making it one of Anheuser-Busch’s “greenest breweries.”
Community Support
Since its opening, the Houston brewery has supported local organizations and causes including the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and Buffalo Bayou clean-ups. These local partnerships reflect Anheuser-Busch employees’ commitment to Houston and all of Texas. Recently, Anheuser-Busch donated more than 100,000 cans of safe, clean drinking water to residents affected by record-setting floods.
Brewing Credentials
The Houston brewery is home to some of the best brewing talent, who focus on quality, consistency, and innovation with every beer they create. And the Anheuser-Busch brewmasters have been creating something special just for Texas residents – the award winning ZiegenBock line. ZiegenBock Kolsch, an easy-drinking summer beer, is available today at the Houston Tour Center.
Beer Education
With Houston’s expanding beer scene, 2015 was a great time to open the doors to the Houston Brewery Tour Center to show visitors the about the care and passion that goes into every beer Anheuser-Busch brews. The Tour Center offers The Day Fresh Tour, the Beermaster Tour and Beer School.
