From BrewDog:
It barely seems like twelve months have passed since our week-long frenzy of collective recipe creation – but everyone’s favourite democratic brew is back, for a fourth consecutive year! Yes, #MashTag is literally just around the corner – the process begins this coming Monday as you select what beer style we will be brewing for #MashTag 2016. And to celebrate our fourth year, we are upping the ante to FOUR choices each day!
If you’re not sure what that last paragraph means, every spring we invite BrewDog’s Twitter followers, Facebook likers, InstaFans and Blog Commenters to vote on each of five specific elements of a beer in turn, and when the week ends you will even get a chance to design the label and vote on that as well. It’s the ultimate in crowdsourced beermaking!
#MashTag week is one of the traditions we really look forward to, here at BrewDog – after all, it will be our many fans who will be enjoying the beer once it is brewed, so it is only fair that they should have a say in each aspect of its creation. Our MashTaggers have accepted this responsibility with typical flair and style – having never let us down so far!
The first ever #MashTag in 2013 produced an American Brown Ale brewed with New Zealand hops and aged on oak chips and hazelnuts. Two years ago, it resulted in an epic globally-hopped Imperial Red Ale with blood orange and citrus peel, and just last year #MashTag 2015 was a monstrous US-hopped black Barley Wine aged on vanilla and toasted oak chips!
So, on Monday the 21st March at 10am a blog will go live right here detailing the four beer styles you guys can pick from. The post on Tuesday will reveal which style came out on top, as well as leading the vote for the malt bill – with hops on Wednesday, a special twist on Thursday and the big final beer reveal on Friday. That’s also the day when the label competition will begin, art fans!
As ever, what you decide on one day will influence the potential choices you have to make the day after – so choose carefully! Steel yourself for the start of the decision-making process on Monday morning, and If there’s anything you really way to see throughout the process let us know in the comments field below!
Craft beer for the people, by the people – this is #Mashtag 2016.
